Grade 8 Newfoundland History Course Resources
A Newfoundland and Labrador History course introduces Grade 8 students to the story of Newfoundlanders and Labradorians from the turn of the 19th century to the present. The textbook is entitled Voyage to Discovery: a History of Newfoundland & Labrador 1800-present and is held at our library. The Curriculum Guide can be found on the Department of Education's website.
The Newfoundland and Labrador Heritage Web Site Project and the provincial Department of Education have created a web site which complements and expands the Curriculum Guide: Grade 8 History Curriculum Guide Reference Site. It provides a clear, expert introduction into the province's history and culture from the beginning of the 19th century to the present. The site contains more than 400 articles, which are divided into five units - each corresponding to the five organizational themes outlined in the Grade 8 Curriculum Guide.
Students researching topics can visit the Centre for Newfoundland Studies, search the Library Catalogue, search for journal articles in the Periodical Article Bibliography, consult the library's Archival Resources or explore the various online resources listed below. These websites were selected for their relevance to the topics included in the Grade 8 history course. Many more websites can be found on our Newfoundland and Labrador Websites by Subject page, our Places in Newfoundland and Labrador page, and our History, Heritage and Culture page.
