The three rolls in this collection record the registers of delinquencies (also known as conduct rolls) for the period 1846 to 1863. Regulations required that the Superintendent of the US Naval Academy maintain a conduct roll. It was to record all offences committed by midshipmen at the school, such as neglect of duty, insubordination, disobedience, neglecting studies, breaking liberty and indecorous conduct. A limit was placed on the number of demerits that a midshipman or cadet could receive during the academic year. Those exceeding these limits were expelled.
