The American Chamber of Commerce was founded by Liverpool merchants involved in the American trade to regulate freight payments and customs fees, to help oversee the operation of the port, and to represent the merchant's interests to government. The books consist primarily of the minutes of the general and committee meetings; but they also include annual surveys of the chamber's work, financial statements, copies of important letters, and newspaper extracts.
A guide to the contents is included on the first reel of the collection.
