This collection consists of a part of the papers of Samuel Whitbread, Liberal member of Parliament from 1790 until his death in 1815. Consisting primarily of letters and printed reports, these papers reveal his continuing interest in the commercial consequences of economic warfare. Examples include lists of the prices and sales of cotton at Liverpool in 1808, an extensive statement of exports and imports to and from America and lists of ships outward and homeward bound from various ports in England.
