Originally published in 1728, Defoe provides, in 368 pages, an historical overview on the state of English trade and proposes increasing trade with existing colonies to serve as markets for British goods. He also includes a proposal for combating pirates in the Mediterranean and transferring the trade for naval stores and timber from Norway and Sweden to the British colonies.
