The manuscript census rolls for Atlantic Canada can be used to penetrate further into the lives of mariners on shore. Used in conjunction with the crew agreements owned by the Maritime History Archive, they provide a consistent way of linking Canadian seamen to their origins on shore, the families they helped to form and their careers once they had retired from the sea.
