Women reading

While the St. John’s Athenaeum and its lending library collection were destroyed in the Great Fire of July 8, 1892, a circulation book from 1892-94 survived. Discovered as part of a larger research project into the life and career of Newfoundland librarian and library advocate Ella Morris (1857-1936), this book records the names of Athenaeum Library users – including women – and the titles they borrowed.
Join the Centre for Newfoundland Studies public services librarian Dr. Bonnie Morgan as she explores what these women were reading, and what they can help us learn (or not) about NL women’s history.
