About Margaret Williams
Margaret Williams began working at Memorial University Library in 1953. She was head of technical services from 1968 to 1972, and was named University Librarian in October 1980. Williams served as president of the Newfoundland Library Association (1969-1971), and of the Canadian Association of College and University Libraries (1973-1974). She was a member of the board of the National Library of Canada (1972-1976) and chaired the Canada Committee on Bibliographic Services from 1975 to 1978. A trust fund was established in 1983, to honour her legacy of dedication and commitment to build a world-class Library at Memorial University. Since its inception, the Margaret Williams Trust Award has granted more than 40,000 dollars to 43 recipients to promote the development of librarianship in Newfoundland and Labrador. The funds are awarded on a competitive basis to applicants seeking funding for library‐related projects or assistance in pursuing graduate studies in librarianship, archival studies, or teacher librarianship.
