About the Health Sciences Library

Who are we?

We primarily support the teaching and research of the Memorial University's Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Nursing and School of Pharmacy and Eastern Health (Health Sciences Centre), including the General Hospital, the Women's Health Centre, the Janeway Children's Health and Rehabilitation Centre, and the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Centre.

We also act as a resource centre for all health practitioners in the Province. Electronic Resources are provided through the Newfoundland and Labrador Health Knowledge Information Network.

Patients at the Health Sciences Centre and their families, as well as members of the public looking for health information, can visit the library as guests and make use of some of our services. Please note, users under the age of 14 may not be left unattended in the library - they are to be accompanied by an adult and remain the responsibility of that adult. All users must follow library policies and standards of behaviour.

Where are we?

We are located on the first floor of the Health Sciences Centre in St. John's.

Our Collection

Our collection includes print and electronic books and journals, audio-visual material, article indexes, image collections and much more in the areas of medicine, nursing, pharmacy, dentistry and allied health.

Please refer to our subject arrangement of books and AV material for a guide on how these materials are shelved at the Health Sciences Library. Search OneSearch (the library catalogue) to find items in our collection.

The K.B. Roberts Historical Collection includes important scholarly analyses of the history of medicine and the health sciences, reprints of classics in the health sciences, and "working" materials such as medical textbooks and other primary historical sources that are exemplary of past medical practice and thought.

The Faculty of Medicine Founders' Archive is a special collection of the Health Sciences Library. The Founders' Archive is an archival repository for the medical school located within the Library.
